Barcelona still 'owe me money', says former coach

Quique Setien arrived at Barcelona in January 2020 following the sacking of Ernesto Valverde. His tenure was brief and turbulent as he was knocked out in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals by Athletic, dealt with COVID-19, lost La Liga to Zidane's Real Madrid and suffered a 2-8 defeat at the hands of Bayern in Lisbon. A series of catastrophic misfortunes ended with the Spanish coach's sacking in the summer. He still had two more seasons left on his contract, so Barcelona were obliged to compensate the coach and his entire coaching staff. However, the club's delicate financial situation due to the pandemic and previous poor management complicated matters. In September 2020, Setien complained that the club had notified him of his dismissal a month late and that he had still not received his severance pay. Quique Setien gave an interview to 'Cadena SER' and spoke about this situation, revealing that the club still owed him money: "I still haven't finished collecting from Barcelona, but I have a deadline that expires at the end of this month, four years later." he claimed. Despite the complicated nature of his time at Camp Nou, he said he has no regrets: "Of course it pays off. For me, as I feel about football and so on, coaching Barcelona is something special. It's the maximum, to be able to coach a team that plays the way you like, without having to arrive and start working on something that they haven't done there".
