Luis Suarez offers advice to Darwin Nunez after international retirement

With Luis Suarez's retirement from international duty, it will now be up to Darwin Nunez to fill in his shoes and become Uruguay's main man up front. The Inter Miami striker played his final game for the South American nation last night - a 0-0 draw with Paraguay in a match valid for the World Cup qualification. After an emotional farewell, Suarez has offered his advice to Nunez. The 25-year-old is currently banned from international football after he was involved in a fight, which broke out following Uruguay's semi-final defeat to Colombia in the Copa America. The player jumped into the stands to protect his family from Colombian fans, resulting in a brawl that required police attention to be stopped. Having been involved in various contraversional moments himself, Suarez hopes the forward can bounce back from the international ban blow. "I already spoke with Darwin when he was sanctioned in England. Sometimes people enjoy it more when you are on the ground and fall, but people feel more pain when you get back up," he said. "And that is what he has to do: get up and continue to show the kind of player he is. That is where you see the great players and the mental strength he has to have to show those people that they like to see him on the ground," he added.  Although Nunez will have to miss five more games for Uruguay, his 13 goals in 29 appearances for Uruguay, indicate his potential to become an influential figure for the national team, picking up from where the likes of Suarez and Edinson Cavani have left off.   September 7, 2024
