Arsenal turn down â?¬35m bid for Trossard

Leandro Trossard has never been a first-choice starter for Arsenal, but that does not mean Mikel Arteta does not consider him key to his plans. The Belgian is in healthy contention with Gabriel Martinelli for space on the left flank for the Gunners, who turned down an informal offer from Al Ittihad this summer. It is a clear signal of what the former Brighton & Hove Albion man brings to the Emirates Stadium. Details of the proposal have come to light thanks to a report by David Ornstein in ‘The Athletic’. The journalist explains that the Saudis put on the table the possibility of taking him on loan for a season for 5 million euros. The contract would have a buy-out clause of between 20 and 25 million euros to be paid in the summer of 2025, making the deal worth around 30 million euros in the end. The Emirates rejected it without a second thought, underlining the winger's solid position in the club's set-up. To have let him go on the terms the Middle Eastern club had put forward would have meant receiving the 24 million invested in him when he was signed from Brighton in January 2023. His current deal, however, runs until 30 June 2027 and his market value is higher (41.1m). Trossard earned a starting place against his former side Brighton, after scoring a goal as a substitute against Aston Villa on matchday two in the Premier League.   September 2, 2024
